spacer Student Affairs Mission, Programs, and Services:

The primary mission of Student Affairs is to provide a dynamic array of programs, resources and services to enhance the student's out-of-class experience and create a vibrant learning community. In partnership with the academic departments, Student Affairs guides the overall student experience and offers a variety of opportunities for student involvement, personal development, intellectual growth, professional exploration and lifelong learning.

The secondary mission of Student Affairs is in the areas of purposeful retention and encouragement of involvement in student life activities designed to enable Otis graduates to be well-rounded, problem-solving artists and designers who are contributing members of society.

Students will find an array of programs and services that support their development and learning:

Student Life and Campus Activities – Under the guidance of Dr. Laura Kiralla, Associate Dean, Student Life and Campus Activities provides opportunities for student engagement through clubs and organizations, the Student Government Association, campus wide student events, and recreation.

Student Counseling Services - Under the supervision of Dr. Fred Barnes, students are encouraged to seek a counselor to support their transition to school, cope with change, and help manage stress and time .

Tutoring Services and Learning Resources - Under the direction of Dr. Carol Branch, tutoring is offered by peer tutors who assist students in reviewing class notes, discuss key concepts in assigned texts, prepare for exams, and assist organizing papers. Students may also use the online tutoring service at tutors@otis.edu

Career Services and Internship Development - Students should seek an appointment with a career counselor during their first year of attendance for guidance on portfolio review, internships, and summer employment opportunities. Please see Laura Daroca, Career Specialist or Laura Kiralla, Associate Dean.

Housing and Residential Services - Students seeking housing or who may need guidance or mediation in living with others can find support through the Housing Department . Please see Michael Richards, Director of Housing and Orientation.

Services for Students with Disabilities - Students with a physical or learning need and who have appropriate documentation should seek support for reasonable accommodations offered through the Student Resources Center (SRC). Please see Dr. Carol Branch in the SRC.

International Student Support - Students that are new to the U.S. or who may still be in transition to Otis can find support for academic and social issues offered through the SRC. Please see Dr. Carol Branch.

We are committed to your success and encourage you to take full advantage of all that the College has to offer. I invite you to see me in Student Affairs throughout the year for assistance.
