SETTING UP FILES

  • Save all files as an STL (Stereolithograpy file).
  • STL files can be acquired from Rhino, Form Z, etc.

PRINT COSTS

  • Calculate your build in cubic inches and use the equations below to calculate printing costs
  • Zcorp 310 (powder) total cubic inches X $5.00 = cost of printing
  • Dimension SST (plastic) (total cubic inches X 1.5) X $8.00 = cost of printing

FILE SUBMISSION PROCEDURE

  1. Put STL file in the Rapid Prototyping folder on the acswinserver, save it onto a USB drive or burn it onto a CD.
  2. Fill out an RP envelope, enclose the proper amount in print cards (blue card) and submit it to a tech for printing (7th floor model shop) Note: print jobs will not be accepted without the proper amount of print cards. Please write your name on the back of your print cards.

TURN-AROUND

  • Please call or visit the Model Shop, 7th floor Ahmanson ( x6973 )

RAPID PROTOTYPING TIPS

  • Make sure your file is saved in inches
  • Zcorp 310 printer, maximum build envelope: 9" x 10.5" x 11" deep
  • Dimension SST printer, maximum build envelope: 8" x 8" x 8"
  • If you are printing a file with more than one part, it is highly recommended that you save each part as a separate file. We cannot change the relationship of one part to another if they have been saved within the same file. Not saving your parts separately create wasted space within the build envelope as well as it usually leads to higher support costs for you.
  • Plan ahead, don't be caught without enough RP punches; the business office closes at 5:00pm Monday through Friday and are closed on the weekends.
  • No printing on the weekends, however you can pick up completed print jobs on Saturday.
