USB Flash Drives (General)

Question:  How do I eject my USB Flash Drive.

Answer - Pull the drive icon down to the trash in your dock. As you do, the trash icon will change to an eject bin and drop there. Wait 5 seconds before unpluging your drive.

Question:  When I insert my USB Flash Drive into the Apple Keyboard it displays "Low   Power Notice"

Answer - Press "OK" and insert it directly to the computer or USB / FireWire hub, if there is any.

Question:  I can not eject / unmount my CD, DVD, External Hard Drive or Server.

Answer - 1, Close any files that you opened directly from your drive, media or server. 2, If you have any fonts you loaded to Suitcase directly from your meida, deactivate and remove them 3, Now try to eject the drive. 4, If you are still unable to eject the drive restart the machine and try to eject it one more time.

 

USB Flash Drives (U3 Smart)

Question:  Whenever I insert my USB Flash Drive into a Mac it launches Toast.

Answer - Your flash Drive is U3 Smart.

Question:  What is U3

Answer - It a software that gives you the ability to carry your files and your software on a secure USB drive.  U3 technology is only supported by Windows XP & Windows 2000.

Question:  Can I format my USB Flash Drive to remove the U3 feature on a PC?

Answer - NO, When you insert it on a PC (Windows) it creates two new drives.  A removable media partition as well as what appears to windows to be a CD drive.  It is CDFS formatted and write protected so windows won't let you write over it or format it. And it does not give you an option to repartition it in Disk Management either.

Question:  Can I format my USB Flash Drive to remove the U3 feature using a Mac?

Answer - No, Disk Utility can not remove U3

Question:  What do I need to know before uninstalling U3 Launchpad from my Smart Drive

Answer - IMPORTANT: Removing U3 Launchpd is irreversible.  All DATA ON YOUR U3 SMART DRIVE WILL BE ERASED. Be sure to back up your files before trying to uninstall U3 Launchpad.

Question:  How do I delete U3 software from my USB memory Key [ex. Sandisk Cruzer Micro, Kingston Technology U3 Data Traveler, Verbatim Store 'n' Go, Intuix Smart Drive M300, Memorex MiniDrive ]

Answer - You need a U3 LAUNCHPAD UNINSTALLER.  U3 uninstaller is a software that removes the U3 Launchpad and re-confiugres the drive to be a single mass storage USB drive.  It is available only for and must be run on Windows XP or Windows 2000 machines. Here is a link to dowload the programs. [ Before running the program make sure your Flash Drive is inserted ]

Question:  My Zip disk is not mounting on the external Zip Drive?

Answer - 1, Look if the Zip drive is plugged into the computer. 2, If that does not work restart the machine.
